Discoverthe village of Lourmarin
Lourmarin is one of the must-see destinations during a stay in the Vaucluse. Listed as one of France’s “most beautiful villages”, Lourmarin is home to a 16th-century Renaissance château, a true architectural gem. Admire its elegant facades and French garden. In Lourmarin, don’t miss the 11th-century church of Saint-André, with its beautifully carved baptismal font. The village is also known as a “bastion of poetry”, having been home to the writer Albert Camus, among others. His grave is in the cemetery near the church.
And while you’re out walking or cycling, don’t forget to stop by the shell bridge known as the Pont de la Meirette. This historic monument spans the Aiguebrun river and was built in 1606 by the commune.
Finally, if you appreciate fine wines, plan a visit to Château Fontvert, a renowned family vineyard. Organic since the early 2000s, this vineyard produces exceptional wines such as Syrah, Mourvèdre and white Grenache. Free tours of the cellar and winery are available, as are free tastings. The château is open daily during the summer season, from May to September.
